Where do you attach the winch line?
To a manufacturer-rated recovery point on the chassis or the screw-in tow eye that lives in the boot with the jack. Attaching to a bumper bar or a suspension arm bends the car and is refused.
Can you pull my car out without damaging it?
In most cases yes, because the pull is slow, straight and doubled through a snatch block when the angle is poor. Where a pull would obviously bend something, the driver will say so and offer a lift instead.
What is a snatch block for?
It is a pulley on a ground anchor. Running the line through it lets us pull from a different direction than the truck is parked, and halves the tension the cable sees.
Do you carry a damper blanket?
Yes, on every recovery truck. It is laid over the cable so that if a line parts it drops to the ground instead of whipping.
